I was a fashion photographer for almost 10-years in my 20′s. I am not one who really enjoys taking photo’s of people posing. Most of my images I had created during my career were planned out by an art director. Which was one of the things I didn’t like about the business. What I did for individuals was far more enjoyable for me. To me it’s about capturing someone in the moment that makes the image. Capturing a moment in which when you look at it, it brings back a thousand memories is a great photo. We all have in our own mind what we think is a great image. Art is a very individual thing. One may love it and another may think totally opposite. For me, it was always about lighting…I loved how light could set a mood. Think about it…it’s like having dinner with a candle or a florescent light.
Food photography is totally different than fashion and for me isn’t so exciting. Probably because many of the food shots are created specifically for a magazine and many of the foods are prepared by someone who it is not always a chef but someone who knows how to make it in order to capture a perfect photograph. That in itself is an art. I doubt I will ever have the desire to learn that skill but nonetheless I enjoy showing things I’ve created or that someone else has prepared.
This image of a homemade pizza I created long ago was only taken with a phone camera. But I love the parchment paper, it’s color and the light coming through my window.
