Going Vegetarian for 7-Days

On March 16th, the last 21-days of Lent, I did a prayer and fast with my church, called the Daniel Fast. That happened to be nothing but fruits, vegetables and whole grains. It was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. I decided to do it again but this time not as strict and more for a few of my friends who have contacted me about my fast that I had done back in March. They really were not so interested in my prayer and fast but primarily my fast. Which lead me to do this for two reasons, one to help them kick start a little healthier eating regime but actually to be able to have them read this message. My 21-days in which I lost 18 pounds had nothing to do with what I ate, but the purpose in which I fasted. I hope I made that clear.

First of all I was mentally prepared to sacrifice and I did not do it to lose weight, it just happened. I did it for my faith in God. I am sorry if I offend anyone but this is my belief and I not hear to preach religion to you but about having a relationship with God. The entire reason the Social Chef even exists is because of this 21-day prayer and fast. So let me just give you the link in which I read specific bible versus and then I will get on with the meals I am going to make. I signed up for a free online program called www.youversion.com which happens to be totally free. Once there I signed up for a reading http://www.youversion.com/reading-plans/35-21-day-fast. If you have an interest about how this gave me clarity in my life and how The Social Chef, A Food Lover’s Blog ever came about here is the link to read my story.

Now let’s get to our 7-day vegetarian plan. Tomorrow I will be making a a few dishes but thought I would start you all off with some things in which really helped me. Just a reminder, the first 3-days is the hardest. Once your body goes through a sort of detox so to speak, you will lose the cravings.

I made a a few staples that really filled me and were pretty good. I will give you a few ideas so you can choose but I will be making things every day, I want to make sure you have some variety in case you don’t like everything I am making. This was what I ate fro breakfast for about 4-days then pretty much lost my appetite for breakfast. I have never shown this video as it was sort of silly but who cares right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCqRJIlXSJc

Also, every day during this 7-days I will be eating fresh fruit, eggs, oatmeal or new thing I found called Jimmy Lean which tastes a bit like sausage and the same consistency but all veggie protein, no meat. I will post it as I make it. Pretty much every day for lunch I will also just eat a very simple salad, usually arugula with a few slices of tomato and extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoy sharing it with you.
